The ISO organization made major revisions to the ISO 14064 standard at the end of 2018, aiming to guide companies to comprehensively assess the impact of greenhouse gases and report carbon reduction results. The ISO 14064 organizational greenhouse gas inventory standard can be applied to various industries, including manufacturing, OEM, service industry, etc.
ISO 14064 is divided into three parts, covering different levels of greenhouse gas management and reporting. The differences between the three can be clearly seen through the figure above.
Among them, the total emissions of enterprises with carbon emissions exceeding 25,000 tons are roughly the top 80% of Taiwan's total carbon emissions. Effectively reducing the carbon emissions of these enterprises will relatively reduce Taiwan's overall carbon emissions.
Carbon inventories are conducted to comply with regulatory requirements, respond to investor inquiries, improve operational efficiency, or meet market demand. This includes companies managed by the Environmental Protection Agency, designated exposure targets by the Financial Supervisory Commission, stakeholders in the supply chain, and voluntary participation.
Transportation is one of the major sources of GHG emissions.
While SMEs may have relatively small carbon emissions, they may still be subject to supply chain requirements or pressure from customers to conduct carbon audits.
To develop and implement climate policy, or in line with international commitments, such as the Paris Agreement.
To develop a climate action plan or to achieve certain sustainability goals.
Undertake a carbon inventory to demonstrate sustainability leadership and deliver on its vision of corporate social responsibility for students and staff.
Demonstrate its commitment to sustainability
Such as large-scale events, construction projects, etc., carbon inventories may be required due to permits or other requirements.
These sectors may be important sources of GHG emissions or GHG sinks.
